International Women’s Day returned for 2020 on the 8th March, with the campaign #EachforEqual.

In light of Sunday’s official celebrations, across all Avenue HQ sites and beyond, we have been celebrating the global day in a whole host of ways.

Avenue HQ’s Sales Manager Jenna Clarke, proudly sits on the board of The Female Hospitality Network – an international members network, designed to empower females. Due to this, Jenna was chosen to speak at Gusto’s International Women’s Day Event.

Following the evening, Jenna explained what this year’s International Women’s Day theme, ‘Each For Equal’, means to her:

“I believe that equality is an integral part of women’s development in business. It’s not about beating a man to that next promotion or being the best ‘woman’ for the job, it’s about sitting at the table with other successful people, no matter their gender, race or age. There’s a slice of the pie available to everyone, you’ve just got to be brave enough to take it!’.

The celebrations continue into the coming weeks, as Team AHQ have been invited to participate in other IWD activities, including the LFC Foundation’s newly developed employability programme. The event’s objective is to bring together female business leaders from a whole host of industries, aiming to inspire young women in the local Liverpool area. Team Avenue HQ will be in attendance, ‘speed networking’ with girls aged 9-10 from Anfield.

‘Each For Equal means equal opportunity, equal respect and equal freedom of choice’ – Siobhan Crinson, Operations Lead at Avenue HQ.

Back onsite, the community team at Avenue Mann Island, hosted a ‘Boss Business Brunch’ in partnership with Barclays Eagle Labs. The morning saw AHQ members come together to celebrate the inspirational women that are embedded in the coworking community. Cher Welch- Eco-System Manager of Eagle Labs Liverpool – commented‘It’s wonderful to see so many female business founders, leaders and team members supporting one and other.’

Over in Leeds, Avenue HQ East Parade member and female founder, G.Digital, has organised a ‘Girls in Tech, G&T’ themed evening. The event will include: interactive sessions, networking and you guessed it, gin & tonics. In light of IWD, the evening is aimed at helping women in business find their unique selling point.

‘Each For Equal means to not see each other as competitors, but as supporters. I am friends with strong women who continue to break down walls and beat stereotypes – these are the women who inspire me.’ Jessica Sharpe, Founder of To The Moon.

International Women’s Day provides a designated time to celebrate womanhood worldwide, whilst simultaneously accelerating the women’s equality movement. At Avenue HQ, we endeavour to ensure that the celebrations and core message of International Women’s Day are felt and heard not just on the 8th March, but all year round.
