Meet The Team: Adam, Commercial Lead

We’re back again for another episode of Meet The Team, where you can get to know our staff over a coffee, find out a little more about their work life and what life is like behind the scenes at Avenue HQ. This week we’re speaking to Adam, Commercial Lead at Avenue HQ.

First things first, what’s your name?

Adam Lowe.

What’s your company role?

Commercial Lead.

What does a typical day look like for you?

There is no typical day, is the answer – a bit of a cliche! I’ll be working across all of our different sites in Liverpool and Leeds, and our different Social venues as well. I work closely with our on-site teams to understand how we can constantly work to improve our spaces, with the use of data and information. This enables us to drive the business forward, creating great spaces and environments for our members. This is helped by having a presence on site and seeing it in action, rather than just being stuck behind a laptop. Our whole ethos is about being able to work flexibly, making use of different spaces, so it’s important for us to be doing that ourselves too.

How long have you worked at Avenue HQ?

It’s been about a year and a half now. It’s brilliant to see how we’ve grown in that time – not just in terms of the number of spaces, but with a bigger community of members, and more staff to support our communities!

What would you say is the best part of the job?

The best part is the people working for us, and the reward in seeing them all develop. Working closely with really talented, passionate people, who you can really see have grown and developed with the company. I think it’s really good to be a part of that. On top of that, seeing so many members grow their business with us – taking more desks, bigger offices, and hiring bigger teams. For me, that’s proof that what we are doing is working, in supporting and enabling those businesses.

And where do you see AHQ going in the next 6 months?

One of our real focuses is looking at how we can keep improving the existing sites we have. It’s important to us that we don’t consider opening a new site as ‘job done’ – that really is only the beginning, as that’s where we start to build our great community of members. In the past we’ve made substantial changes to our existing sites based on member feedback, all of which were aimed at improving how the space is used and how we can make the experience even better. As our members grow with us, we want to keep our space as fresh as we can – and make sure it’s being used to its fullest, whether through new events, updating our meeting rooms, having new offers in our Social, and more.

Also, we are obviously keen to open more sites, finding different locations where we can do that, so that we can offer more to our members and give them a spread of locations they can use. So our focus is on how we can make our experience the best it can be, and how we can keep that fresh at existing sites, and in new cities we’d like to open in.

Going back to what you previously said about growing younger talent, what do you look for in an AHQ employee?

We really look for people who are passionate and enthusiastic. That might sound broad and hard to measure, but it’s something we spot quite quickly. The kind of people that are enthusiastic to learn and develop are always able to pick things up quickly, and establish themselves in the company well. Everyone that works for us has unique personalities and skillsets, which make them great for their role, but there’s also a broader ability for all to get stuck in to different areas of the business – not just to help out, but to help them better understand how it works, and how all strands of the company tie in together.

So you’re Commercial Lead at Avenue HQ, but when you were little, what was your dream job?

My dream job was Commercial Lead at AHQ…

I remember that when I was about 8 I wanted to work in a bank. Thinking back, that is a bit of a strange dream job (no offence to any bankers) – but it’s not something that an 8 year old should be dreaming of! When I was a bit older, I wanted to be a journalist, and I have done a lot of writing (not just for the Avenue HQ Blog…), having worked in Marketing. As much as I enjoy writing, throughout my career I’ve found myself to enjoy the more analytical and technical side of my roles – using data to understand why we do what we do, and how we can keep striving to improve what we do.

If you had to listen to one song all day at AHQ, what would it be?
