Business Goals: Mid-year Check-up

It’s half-way through the year and we’re looking back to make sure we stay on track for the future.

In January we spoke about how you can achieve your goals for the year ahead. While it’s all well and good setting January objectives, it’s important to evaluate throughout the year.  Half way through is the perfect opportunity. We all have good intentions to stick to the goals we set but sometimes it’s important to check-in.

Here we outline the ways you can check-in with your goals so you stay on track to achieving them:

Making Progress

Start by assessing your progress. Look at each individual goal to see where you have made progress on and which goals might need some more of your attention. Measuring your progress is important as it’s the only way to know how far you’ve come and what you need to work on to ensure you reach your goals.

Freedom To Be Flexible

By taking time throughout the year to review your goals, you get the opportunity to adjust them to make them more realistic and achievable. You can learn from what you have been doing the first half of the year, whether it worked or didn’t, see where you need to make a change and apply that to the next half of the year.

Consistency Is Key

Make sure your goals are aligned. If you want to pay off some some personal debt and invest more into your business, it might be difficult to do both at the same time. It’s not impossible to reach both goals but it makes sense to prioritise the debt payment first, so you can clear that and move on to the next goal of investment when your finances have more stability.

Test It

Anything you can test will make measuring that bit easier. While it’s not always obvious how to test a goal, you can create your own method to judge how far you’ve come. For example, one of our business goals from the start of the year was seek support for your business. While you might not be able to measure how much support you’ve had in its simplest form, it’s worth tracking how many meetings you have taken with a mentor or how many workshops you’ve attended each month. This will help you gauge how much effort you have put into bettering yourself and your business, and even if it’s only a few hours a month, if you started at zero, that’s an improvement. Because you can measure this, it will motivate you to keep going throughout the rest of the year to see if you can boost those numbers even higher.

And remember, it’s only July now so you still have another six months to progress and work towards your goals. It’s never to late to start!
